Giants Get First Win of Season Against Vikings

In a game without much offensive production from either team, the New York Giants defeated the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 to give the Giants their first win of the season. Eli Manning completed 23 of 39 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown, committing no turnovers in a game for the first time this season.

The Giants defense wreaked havoc on a listless Vikings offense that was starting Josh Freeman at quarterback for the first time since his recent signing. Reigning MVP Adrian Peterson was held to 28 yards on 13 carries, and Freeman completed only 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards and an interception.

The Giants scored first, getting a field goal on their first drive of the game, but Marcus Sherels returned a punt for a touchdown for Minnesota with 49 seconds left in first quarter to put the Vikings ahead. This would be the Vikings only score of the night. The Giants forced two crucial special teams turnovers deep in Minnesota territory in the second half, leading to 10 points and putting the Vikings in a hole in the second half.

The Giants improved to 1-6 on the season, while the Vikings dropped to 1-5. The Giants will hope to build on this win next week as they face the Philadelphia Eagles, another team with an uncertain quarterback situation.
