Sochi 2014: Jorrit Bergsma Sets Olympics Record in Men's 10000m, Netherlands Sweep Podium

It is all about The Netherlands at another speed skating event at the 2014 Winter Olympics. This time, the country won all three medals in the men’s 10000m and Jorrit Bergsma set a new record.

Bergsma timed at 12:44.45, which is an incredible 14 seconds faster than the previous Olympic record. His teammate Kramer skated as well as him at first, but towards the end of his laps he slowed down. He timed in at 12:49.02, which is only 4.57 seconds. Bob de Jong came in at 13:07.19, about 22.74 seconds behind Bergsma.

Once again, the Americans struggled. Emery Lehman came in tenth and Patrick Meek placed eleventh. At first they thought it was the new Under Armour suits and changed back to the suits they used in the world championships and Olympic trials. Nothing has changed. The highest an American has placed is seventh.

This is the Netherlands’ fourth sweep in speed skating and now lead the total medal count with 20.
