Samantha Stosur First Seeded Competitor to Fall at Wimbledon 2014

LONDON-It did not take very long for a seed to fall at Wimbledon. Unseeded Yanina Wickmayer defeated seventeen-seed Samantha Stosur 6-3, 6-4.

Stosur has never made it past the third round at Wimbledon and lost in the first round in six of her last twelve appearances. Wickmayer is a former US Open semifinalist

Wickmayer completely dominated the match and broke Stosur four out of six times. Stosur was impressive with thirteen aces and 25 winners. She looked better when she broke Wickmayer, but it did not occur until she was down 5-3 in the second set. It was not enough and Wickmayer won 6-4.

Stosur recently left coach Miles Maclagen after seven months together and this was her fifth loss to a player ranked below sixty.
