Live from London: Victoria Azarenka Upset by Bojana Jovanovski at Wimbledon

LONDON – Eighth seed Victoria Azarenka is out at Wimbledon. Bojana Jovanovski won 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. It was Azarenka’s return after months off from a foot injury and she did not look back in top form. She won just three out of 16 break points.

But that is not to take away from Jovanovski, who showed poise and ability to overcome errors. Azarenka could not find her footing in the first set and never broke Jovanovski. She had two opportunities, but did not capitalize on them, which would have moved the set to her favor.

Azarenka appeared to gain confidence in the second set. She won 90% of her net points and finally managed to break Jovanovski once. But that is where her decent playing ended.

In the third set, Jovanovski came out on fire and did not let go. She had three aces and broke Azarenka two times. Azarenka had 16 winners, but her nine unforced errors came back to haunt her as Jovanovski won 7-5.

This is the first time Jovanovski is in the third round at a Grand Slam. Her next opponent will be either Tereza Smitkova or Coco Vandeweghe.
