Petra Kvitova Dominates Eugenie Bouchard, Wins Second Wimbledon Title

LONDON, United Kingdom – Petra Kvitova is the 2014 Wimbledon ladies’ singles champion. She dominated Eugenie Bouchard 6-3, 6-0 in a match that lasted only 55 minutes for her second Wimbledon title.

In the most lopsided women’s Wimbledon final since 1992, Kvitova ran Bouchard off the court with her lefty serve and reminded tennis fans of her countrywoman Martina Navratilova, who won nine Wimbledon titles.

Bouchard just could not keep up with Kvitova’s massive serve and intense baseline play. Kvitova broke Bouchard three times in the first set and was only broken once the whole match. Even though she is a baseline player, Kvitova showed her ability to play the whole court when she won 88% of her net points.

Bouchard was rattled by the first set and could not recover. Kvitova won the set in only 23 minutes and was in complete control. She won 90% of her first serve points, once again played the net very well with 67% net points, and broke Bouchard three more times.

Kvitova fell to the ground in happiness after she captured her second Wimbledon title. In 2011, she defeated Maria Sharapova.

“She played fantastic the last two weeks,” Bouchard said after the match. “I’m proud of the way I played at Wimbledon and I can’t wait for next year.”

Kvitova could not hold back the tears and kept thanking her family and team.

“All of my team have meant a lot to me over the years,” she said. “Thank you to everyone!”
