Giants to Acquire Peavy from Red Sox

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A person with knowledge of the trade says the San Francisco Giants are working to finalize the acquisition of right-hander Jake Peavy from the Boston Red Sox for a pair of minor league pitchers.

Details were still being worked out Saturday, and the person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither side had announced the swap. San Francisco will send right-hander Heath Hembree and lefty Edwin Escobar to the World Series champion Red Sox.

Peavy (1-9, 4.72 ERA) could be in the Giants’ rotation as soon as Sunday night for the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers at AT&T Park. Yusmeiro Petit is scheduled to pitch for the Giants with right-hander Matt Cain on the disabled list.

Peavy received two runs of support or fewer in each of his past eight starts.

The Giants made the deal without having to give up their top pitching prospect, Kyle Crick.
