The 141st Kentucky Derby starts today at 6:24 p.m. Eastern. American Pharaoh, listed as the overwhelming favorite at 2-1, races from the 17th position after a scratch from Stanford. California Chrome, last year’s winner, started in the fifth spot. No Kentucky Derby winner has won after posting at 17.

While American Pharaoh races as the closest thing to a sure-bet in the field, Frammento–his name, the Italian word for “splinter,” comes from the horse running into a fence–offers gamblers the biggest potential payday at 99-1.
