Shin-Soo Choo hit for the cycle Tuesday night in the Texas Rangers 9-0 rout of the Colorado Rockies.

Choo doubled in the second inning, hit a home run in the fourth, and singled in the fifth. The right fielder came to the plate needing a triple in the ninth inning to complete the rare feat.

Choo sent a Rex Brothers fastball to the deep Coors Field wall in center and sent himself to third base by putting his motor into overdrive.

“It’s not an easy pitcher on the mound,” Choo told reporters. “I hit it well and [thought] maybe he can catch that. I’m not thinking about it before contact.”

Choo becomes the eighth Ranger to hit for the cycle and the second player, after Brock Holt of the Boston Red Sox, to record all four hits in a game this season. The cycle enters the record books as the 306th in major league history, making the plate accomplishment only slightly less rare than the no-hitter on the mound.
