Piers Morgan is no stranger to scorn and mockery on Twitter. Normally the British media personality receives said scorn and mockery due to some awful take on politics. This time, however, Morgan finds himself in the internet’s crosshairs over a sports take.
Unbeknownst to most American sports fans, the biggest sports story in the world this week was not NFL free agency, but instead the unbelievable collapse of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 game against Barcelona.
Morgan, clearly immersed in that game, and in need of an analogy to explain the massive choke job he just witnessed, took to Twitter and mocked PSG at the expense of Greg Norman:
Greg Norman must be happy.
No longer the biggest choker in sports history. #PSG— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 8, 2017
Not long after the post, golf Twitter became very, very rowdy:
@piersmorgan Norman won 2 majors and 91 tournaments. Stick to hypocritical and contradictory politics. It’s called golf. You lose sometimes.

As Golf Digest correctly notes, the go-to easy analogy for Morgan here would have been Atlanta’s Super Bowl collapse against the Patriots. Why Morgan instead opted to target a guy who won over 90 tournaments, we may never know.
Perhaps referencing England’s choke job in nearly every World Cup since 1966 would have been too painful.
