A New York City man accused of brutally beating a Navy veteran inside a housing project did it because he thought the veteran was watching his mother through a crack in a door, prosecutors said.

Authorities charged Lytee Knox Hundley, 31, with felony assault charges in connection with the Friday incident, which left the victim with a broken nose and fractured eye socket.

The beatdown began around 6:15 p.m. Friday in the lobby of the Brooklyn apartment building when the suspect allegedly stomped on and pummeled Wilfredo Arce, a 63-year-old Vietnam War veteran, while witnesses stood there streaming the incident on Facebook Live.

Prosecutors say Hundley’s mother reportedly saw Arce peek his head through the door to her apartment while she was sitting on her couch.

Hundley then spotted Arce near an elevator, telling him that he “knows somebody” with “heroin and cocaine,” according to prosecutors.

Arce told Hundley he did not do that sort of thing, and Hundley took off.

Hundley then returned, telling Arce, “My mother said you’ve been looking at her through the door.”

“That’s not possible, that wasn’t true,” Arce replied.

Arce’s reply rubbed Hundley the wrong way, causing him to allegedly punch the victim in the face and the head. The force of the blow knocked Arce to the floor, after which Hundley continued to allegedly kick the victim in the face.

Medics took Arce to a local hospital to be treated for injuries to his face. He has since been released from the hospital.

There were at least three people who witnessed the incident but only one person attempted to intervene.

A prosecutor tried to set Hundley’s bail at $100,000, but the judge lowered it to $15,000 because Hundley surrendered to authorities on Sunday.

Hundley also faces several misdemeanor charges, including assault, attempted assault, menacing, and harassment.
