New Abbott Web Ad Targets Anti-Wendy Davis Border Residents

Texas Republican gubernatorial hopeful Greg Abbott continues his pitch to Texas border residents with a new, multicultural message titled “One Family” released Monday morning.

The ad continues the uplifting approach to attract potential undecided, non-traditional Republican voters in south Texas and along the border. An Abbott voiceover proclaims “the reality is that multiculturalism works in the state of Texas.”

Seeking to capitalize on Wendy Davis’ recent failure to carry a majority of Texas border counties to an unfunded primary rival, Abbott reminded viewers, “We’re Anglo and Hispanic as well as Irish–we’re Catholic, we’re protestant.” The line echoes the sentiments of former Davis foe Ray Madrigal when he criticized her ability to connect with Catholics, Baptists and other religious voters due to her position on abortion.

The ad also features Abbott’s wife Cecilia–a Latina–who was recently reported to be labeled a “prop” by Democrat Lubbock city councilman Victor Hernandez despite his vehement denials.

The 30 second web ad features footage from the south Texas city of Edinburg and is expected to receive considerable rotation in the regional media market.
