Pregnant 14-Year-Old US Citizen Shot by Mexican Police Near Border

A pregnant 14-year-old U.S. citizen was wounded after Mexican police shot at a truck she was riding in.

The shooting happened late Monday night in Tamaulipas, a Mexican state located near the U.S. border. According to CBS, the incident took place close to the international bridge connecting Pharr, Texas to Mexico.

State officers reported approached the truck outside of a convenience store — the 14-year-old was riding in the passenger’s seat and an unidentified male was driving. CBS reported that although police had ordered them to stop, the driver took off.

In an effort to stop the truck, police shot at its tires.

Eventually they were successful and the vehicle came to a stop. The driver exited the truck and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The 14-year-old female, however, was sitting in the passenger’s seat and wounded in the stomach. She was four months pregnant at the time of the incident.

According to reports, the teen and her unborn child are in the hospital. They are both expected to live.

U.S. officials were made aware of the incident. No further details have been provided at this time.
