Texas Border Inmate Tried To Hang Himself Inside Jail

MCALLEN, Texas — Texas Border Authorities are looking into an apparent near-suicide attempt inside the Hidalgo County Jail.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Friday night, an inmate inside a holding cell had tried to hang himself with a makeshift rope padding out before getting rescued by jailers.

“The jail staff that discovered him immediately removed the makeshift rope and medical staff provided CPR to the inmate who was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment,” the sheriff’s office said in a prepared statement issued to Breitbart Texas.

Because of the early stages of the investigation, the inmate’s name or charge was not readily available.

The near-suicide has triggered an investigation into the jail procedures and protocol “to ensure that we take appropriate action when dealing with inmates that may attempt to harm themselves.”
