MCALLEN, Texas — The government watchdog group Judicial Watch has released some documents tied to an accidental incursion by the Mexican military into the Arizona border from June 2014.
Breitbart Texas and other news outlets reported on the accidental incursion last year when U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent a statement confirming that a Mexican military helicopter crossed 100 yards into U.S. soil and fired warning shots at U.S. authorities.
The non-profit organization Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information request with U.S. Customs and Border Protection asking for documents and reports tied to the incident. The information released by Judicial Watch shows that on the day of the shooting two U.S. Border Patrol Vehicles with markings and an unmarked one had been on the U.S. side of the border observing as Mexican authorities tried to arrest about 45 individuals on the Mexican side.
It was during that event that a Mexican helicopter crossed 100 yards into the U.S. side and fired two rounds at the U.S. Border Patrol vehicles who turned on their emergency lights, the documents by Judicial Watch revealed.
After the shooting the helicopter went back to Mexico and Military officials approached the border fence to speak with the U.S. Border Patrol agents where they apologized and told them that they had notified the main office in Mexico City.
As Breitbart Texas previously reported, more than 500 armed Mexican troops or police have crossed the border and entered the U.S. over the past 10 years in a series of accidental incursions.
