A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in Laredo is facing federal charges that accuse him of collecting $40,000 in overtime that he did not work.

Agents with CBP Internal Affairs and the FBI Border Corruption Task Force arrested Jesus Javier Garcia Jr. this week, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed.

The charges against Garcia come from a federal indictment that was handed down by a grand jury in May and was unsealed on Thursday following his arrest.

Garcia is expected to go before U.S. Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker on Friday where he would be read his rights and a bond could be set on the case.

Breitbart Texas recently spoke with FBI Director James Comey who stated that border corruption continues to be a serious problem in the area. As Breitbart Texas  previously reported, corruption along the Texas Mexico border has been a long standing problem where law enforcement and government officials at all levels have been tied to bribery, theft and other corrupt activities including working for Mexican drug cartels; in response to such widespread corruption the FBI had to create a task force to fight border corruption.
