Mexican marines killed six gunmen from Los Zetas cartel who tried to shoot down a military helicopter near the border city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

The shooting of the helicopter comes exactly a month after Breitbart Texas  reported that a group of cartel gunmen in Nuevo Laredo shot down a helicopter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office, Air and Marine Division that had been flying on the U.S. side.

The brazen attack by the cartel members at that time resulted in CBP receiving political pressure and, as Breitbart Texas previously reported, sending two Blackhawk helicopters to Laredo. The new helicopters are armored to be able to withstand small arms fire.

In this July 5th attack, a squad of Mexican Marines had been patrolling a rural area known as “Ejido El Cuatro.” This is about 50 miles south of Nuevo Laredo. They spotted a convoy of gunmen, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Tamaulipas government revealed.

The Mexican Marines had been trying to confirm intelligence about a convoy of gunmen that had been working in the area west of Laredo including Nueva Ciudad Guerrero and the bordering areas with Nuevo Leon.

According to the information provided by Tamaulipas authorities, the gunmen fired at the helicopter and struck the helicopter 7 times. The marines fired some warning shots and then fought off the attack killing 6 gunmen. Military personnel on the ground arrived to seize four vehicles and six firearms.
