The police chief in a small town in eastern Alabama has been arrested for allegedly selling a handgun and ammunition to an illegal alien.

The FBI, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Clements, the police chief of Franklin, Alabama, at his home on Thursday, after a federal grand jury indicted him. The authorities took the local authority into custody without incident.

The indictment, obtained by Breitbart Texas and attached below, states that Clements allegedly sold a Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolver to a man he knew to be an illegal alien in July of 2014. Two months ago, he sold the same man 22 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition, a round used most often for target practice with that caliber pistol.

The firearm and the ammunition have been recovered, Breitbart Texas learned in a phone call with the FBI office in Montgomery, Alabama. No charges were filed against the illegal alien who allegedly purchased the gun illegally.

Clements is a life-long resident of Macon County, according to WSFA 12. He had served on the Tuskegee Police Department and had an unsuccessful run for sheriff of Macon County in 2014.

Breitbart Texas learned that Chief Clements was released from jail on bond Friday.
