The body of a deceased woman from San Antonio, Texas, was stolen from the funeral home shortly after her funeral service. The family is, once again, struck with grief over losing her a second time.

Julie Mott, 25, died from a long battle with cystic fibrosis on August 8. Her family gathered at the Mission Park Funeral Chapels North for the service to mourn her loss and celebrate her life. Just hours later, as her body remained locked in the funeral home over night, somebody took her from her family again.

“It is believed that in the hours after the funeral service, someone came into the funeral home and stole her remains,” San Antonio police told KSAT-ABC12 in the Alamo City.

“There wasn’t any forced entry to the facility,” Sergeant Javier Salazar told KSAT’s Stephanie Serna. “So, what it’s believed is between the hours of 1:30 p.m. when the service ended to about 4:30 p.m. when they locked up for the evening, someone came in and stole Ms. Mott’s remains. That person remains at large.”

Employees discovered the body missing on August 16. They discovered an empty casket, according to Fox News.

The funeral director is reported to be a personal friend of the Mott family. He said the August 15 date was chosen because it would have been Julie Mott’s 26th birthday. The funeral home has announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the individuals involved woman’s body stolen from the mortuary.

Police told reporters there was no indication that a break-in had occurred. They believe the body was stolen during the funeral home’s regular business hours.

Julie Mott’s Facebook page reveals her to have been a young lady who loved horses, dogs, and cats. It appears she had a large number of friends who enjoyed spending time with her.

One Facebook friend, Jessica Payne, said this it was “so disturbing and unbelievable that someone would do this. RIP Julie and prayers to your family in this horrible time.”

Taylor Ricks said, “This is unbelievable. Keep the family of Julie Mott in your thoughts, they’ve had enough heartache, now this. Just sickening.”

Sergeant Salazar said, “I have never in 22 years in law enforcement ever heard of anything like this.”
