A Twitter user asked Texas Governor Greg Abbott to consider why “God has tried crushing you and then burning you.” Abbott replied that “God has helped me prevail” and added, “I feel blessed.”
The entire tweet to the Texas Governor from the Twitter user said, “so far God has tried crushing you and then burning you. Have you considered the reasons behind this?”

Abbott, who controls his personal Twitter feed tweeted in response:
So far God has helped me prevail over challenges from earth, wind & fire. I feel blessed. https://t.co/ufKc1uttGX

The response to Abbott’s tweet was overwhelmingly positive:
@Frobeus_NS @GregAbbott_TX God didn’t do these things. God allowed Abbott to be tested and he prevailed giving God the glory not himself!

As reported by Breitbart Texas, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott sustained extensive second- and third-degree burns on both legs below the knees and on both feet in July. Spokesman Matt Hirsch said that Abbott was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, when he was scalded in an accident involving hot water. Hirsch did not provide further details.
Just hours after the accident, Micah Xavier Johnson went on a shooting rampage at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas and killed five police officers and wounded six others, as reported by Breitbart Texas. Despite obvious pain, Abbott traveled to Dallas to meet with city officials, family members and police officers. Hirsch said Abbott’s legs were wrapped under his pants when he held a press conference in Dallas.
Abbott was admitted to the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio early the next week after tests revealed a “minor infection.” He also had to endure skin grafts to repair the damage to both feet, Breitbart Texas reported.
Responding to well-wishers that weekend, Governor Abbott tweeted “Thanks for your prayers & well-wishes. They make my day. Just know that I’ve overcome tougher challenges.” He attached a Texas flag that bore “KEEP CALM AND STAY TEXAS STRONG.”
