Cartel Frees Teen Inmates in Mexican Border State

Prison Breakout
Breitbart Texas / Cartel Chronicles

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas — A team of cartel gunmen from one of the factions of Los Zetas rescued eight teenagers serving various prison terms at a juvenile center in the town of Guemez, north of this city.

After beating and threatening detention center officers and staff, two teams of cartel gunmen were able to remove 22 juvenile inmates. Because the facility is meant to hold underage offenders, the security conditions were no match for the team of gunmen.

The breakout caused a massive deployment of military and police forces to detain the escapees. One day later, authorities claimed they captured two of the fugitives.

An intelligence report revealed that the inmates were busted out under orders of a cartel boss known only as Z-28. The juvenile detention center is just a short drive north from Ciudad Victoria along the highway that connects with the border city of Matamoros.

Historically, cartels that operate in the border state of Tamaulipas routinely rescue their members from prisons and detention facilities to bolster their ranks in their ongoing fights with rivals. Currently, in Ciudad Victoria and nearby towns, a faction made up of members of the Gulf Cartel and Zetas Vieja Escuela are fighting with members of the Zeta faction called Cartel Del Noreste (CDN). The CDN is headquartered in the border city of Nuevo Laredo.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “Francisco Morales” from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas.
