The entire police force in Ocampo, Michoacan, was detained as part of an ongoing investigation into the recent murder of a political candidate.

Over the weekend, Michoacan state authorities arrested Ocampo Police Chief Oscar Gonzalez Garcia and at least 20 of his officers in connection with a series of riots taking place where local police officers faced off against state cops to keep from being questioned about the recent murder of Mayoral Candidate Fernando Angeles Juarez. During the riots, police officers clashed, patrol vehicles were damaged and some shots were fired, however, no one was apparently shot in the melee.

While Gonzales is expected to be questioned as part of the ongoing murder investigation, his officers are likely to face charges for the riot.

Angeles Juarez was recently killed at his home in Ocampo when three gunmen barged into the property and shot him. Angeles Juarez was a candidate for mayor in the upcoming election. He was one of three candidates killed in Michoacan in recent days.
