CNN Reports 8 shot in NYC, Overlooks 19 Shot in Chicago

As CNN aired coverage of the NYC shooting this morning, telling viewers that 8 had been shot and 2 persons killed, the news anchor asked rhetorically, “Does this shooting, right on the heels of the shooting in Aurora, and the shooting at the Sikh temple, show a pattern of mass shootings?” In my mind’s eye I could see gun control groups and Democrat operatives throughout the country jumping up and down with their hands clasped while screaming, “Yes it does. Oh please say it does.”

And it struck me as kind of strange, as CNN’s onsite cameras were focused tightly on the flashing emergency lights outside the Empire State Building, there was absolutely no mention of the fact that 19 people were shot last night in Chicago.

19 shot in Chicago just last night.

This means Chicago is at approximately 37 shooting deaths for the month of August alone. And the city is still on track for 500 gun related deaths this calendar year.

Is there any chance CNN might see a pattern here? Might they not recognize that the Chicago example utterly destroys the claim that gun control saves lives? (Claims most often made by gun control groups and Democrat operatives.)

Look at this way: Thus far, in August alone, more people have been killed in Chicago shootings that in the shootings of Aurora, the Sikh temple, and the Empire State Building combined. But that’s not the news CNN wants to report, so it’s not the news we hear.

In a perfect world, the CNN headline would have been, “Gun control doesn’t save lives, it costs lives. And Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago proves it.”
