Al Jazeera May Buy Former NYT Building as HQ for U.S. Channel

Al Jazeera’s American headquarters will be in New York, and the network is looking at potentially using the old New York Times building for it.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Al Jazeera has taken a look at various buildings, including the former Times building, for “a New York headquarters for the U.S. cable channel it plans to launch in July.”

The Times sold its old building in 2004, and the Blackstone Group now owns it.

Al Jazeera bought Al Gore’s Current TV in January and will launch a U.S.-based cable channel. The network plans to hire as many as 700 people in the United States.
