In what can only be interpreted as a desperate move for attention, Rolling Stone Magazine released a terrorist chic edition. This month’s cover features surviving Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, in a glamour pose that would be better suited to David Bowie or Jim Morrison.
The backlash was swift. THR reports that CVS pharmacy will refuse to sell the issue. On his CNN show The Lead, Jake Tapper just reported that Walgreens will also refuse to sell the issue.
These pharmacy giants are following public outrage…
More than 11,000 people have additionally stormed the magazine’s direct Facebook page with angry comments and hundreds of others have slammed a related article on the magazine’s website — some vowing to cancel their subscriptions.
…and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino:
Why would we want to heroize this guy? He’s a terrorist. We don’t want him in our neighborhoods. We don’t want him on magazines. We don’t want him anywhere,” Menino told WHDH.
Terrorist chic has a long and disturbing history on the left. Che Guevara, the Weather Underground, and the likes of Barack Obama’s friend, domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, have all benefitted and been rewarded by a left all-too willing to glamorize, forgive, and turn into icons those who target the innocent to further the anti-American/leftist cause.
**UPDATE** The Associated Press now reports that Tedeschi Food Stores, Roche Bros. groceries, and Stop & Shop have joined the boycott of Rolling Stone‘s “Bomber” issue. The Huffington Post also reports that Rite Aid and Kmart have both told them they will not sell the latest edition of the magazine.
