WaPo: Cheerios Tweet Defines 'What MSNBC Is Becoming'

Washington Post media reporter Erik Wemple sees something happening at MSNBC beyond just that of a bizarre series of offensive statements dehumanizing Republicans, followed by apologies. Wednesday night, after MSNBC’s official Twitter account claimed conservatives would be offended by a Cheerios commercial starring a biracial family, Wemple ripped the network over its “pathology” and “prejudice.”

“The string of offenses,” Wemple writes, “raises doubts about [MSNBC’s Executive Editor] Wolffe’s claim that the tweet from last night doesn’t reflect ‘who we are at msnbc.’ … Sometimes a bad tweet represents the errant and unrepresentative thoughts of some employee managing the social-media accounts. And sometimes it represents institutional morays and prejudices.”

Wemple wrote of what he calls “MSNBC’s apologetic pathology” even before Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus declared an RNC boycott of the network and asked other Republicans to join the RNC in not appearing on the “Lean Forward” network.
