Romney In 1994: 'The Free Market Economy Is The Best' For Healthcare

During a debate with Ted Kennedy for the Massachusetts Senate race of 1994, then-candidate Mitt Romney asserted “I do not believe in a government takeover of the healthcare system.” When pressed on the idea that the government should not decide how many students should be general practitioners, Romney stated, “The free market economy is the best at setting how many specialists we should have, not some bureaucrats in Washington.”
