Planned Parenthood President Claims DNC Doesn't Favor Tax Payer Funded Abortion

Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood speaks with Scottie Neal Hughes at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. When asked about tax-payer funded abortion, a key plank in the Democratic Party’s platform, Richards claims “that’s not what this is about.”

Meanwhile, the platform of the Democratic Party, which had just been approved at the very same convention, included this language: “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”

President Obama also supports direct taxpayer-funding of elective abortions for Medicaid recipients. Obama opposes the Hyde amendment, which bars federal funding of abortion through Medicaid except in cases when a pregnancy endangers a woman’s life or is the result of rape or incest.

It is disingenuous, at the very least, for the President of Planned Parenthood to suggest that she, her organization and the Democratic Party does not favor and are advocating for tax-payer funded abortions.
