Harry Reid: Hurricane Katrina 'Nothing In Comparison' To Sandy

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) It’s too bad that it’s taking so long. When we had that devastating [Hurricane] Katrina, we were there within days taking care of Mississippi, Alabama, and especially Louisiana — within days. We are now past two months with people of New York and the people of New Orleans and that area, they were hurt but nothing in comparison to what happened to the people in New England.

A million people lost their homes. A million people lost their homes. That’s homes, that’s not people in those homes. So, I think it’s just really unfortunate that we don’t have the relief for New York and New Jersey and the rest of New England already. It has to be done. We have to meet the needs of the American people when an act of God occurs. (U.S. Senate floor, January 4, 2013)
