Japan Reasserts Claim Over Disputed Islands

Japan’s defense ministry has said that Russian fighter jets have violated its airspace near a group of islands in the midst of a territorial dispute between the two countries. Both the nations claim these islands as their own, with Japanese calling it Northern Territories while for Russians it’s Kuril Islands. Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has pledged to find a peaceful solution to this long running dispute, as a group of Japanese people are demanding the right to return to the islands after almost 70 years.
