Alleged Police Impersonator Arrested With Huge Stash Of Weapons

NBC Local: Authorities arrested an alleged police impersonator and seized a cache of weapons, body armor and gas masks from his home, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Jeffrey Edmonds, 37, of Simi Valley, was accused of posing as an LAPD captain and stealing weapons parts from a business in Castaic, about 40 miles north of Los Angeles, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department statement. The parts reportedly stolen were components of AR-15 rifles, the statement said. When sheriff’s detectives contacted the Los Angeles Police Department with the name and badge number Edmonds provided, they discovered it was counterfeit, the statement said. An investigation led detectives to Edmonds. Detectives searched his home on Royal Avenue and found the parts that were reported stolen – and much more. The search also uncovered: several bullet proof vests, large amounts of ammunition, numerous handguns, rifles and illegal assault weapons, ballistic helmets, a flash-bang grenade, a smoke grenade, a sting ball grenade, a CS gas grenade, and a counterfeit LAPD captain’s badge and identification, gas masks and other tactical equipment. Edmonds was booked into jail on suspicion of grand theft, impersonating a police officer and weapons violations. He was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on Thursday.
