Halperin Predicts GOP Will Take Back the Senate

On Tuesday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin predicted that as of today, the 2014 midterm elections will swing heavily in the Republican Party’s favor in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

“Today, Republicans would pick up seats in the House,” Halperin said. “Even some Democratic strategists say ObamaCare gets less popular, if there’s another incident, they could lose substantial seats in the House. I think the key for the Democrats is they’ve got to make these individual Senate races, as John [Harris] said. People like [Sen. Mark] Pryor can really fight themselves into contention if they run strong races independent of the national tide. The problem is they still are facing a national tide I think that will be strong enough to topple enough [Democrats] to get a majority. There are at least nine Democratic House seats in play, as many as 13. It’s tough math for them still, but they are not giving up. They’re not overwhelmed and they are not taking it for granted and they are fighting state by state.”

“Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist went on to ask Halperin if whether or not the GOP takes back the U.S. Senate.

“Today they do and I still think something has to change for them to not take the Senate,” he replied.
