McCain: 'I Wouldn't Release' Detainees for Bergdahl

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), told CNN’s “State of the Union” anchor Candy Crowley that he “wouldn’t release these [five Guantanamo Bay]” detainees to secure the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

McCain argued that “Qatar is not renowned for its ability to keep things in security,” and that the five released inmates were “the hardest of hardcore,” and “the top five who were picked by the Taliban.” McCain also predicted that the released prisoners would “re-enter the fight” against the United States, and that this risk must be weighed against the desire to bring all troops home safely.
