Historian: Iraq Collapse 'Eerily Similar' to Vietnam's Fall

Historian and author of “America’s Star-Spangled History,” Jane Hampton Cook told Fox Business Network host Neil Cavuto that Iraq’s takeover by ISIS is “very eerily similar” to the fall of South Vietnam to the Vietcong. Cook pointed out that “the north Vietnamese marched from city to city and from town to town,” much like the ISIS rebels have in their takeover of Iraq.

She also stated that during the fall of South Vietnam “you heard the same things, rumors of beheadings.” In addition, Cook pointed out that President Barack Obama, much like then-President Gerald Ford, campaigned on ending an unpopular war and had to balance that with the danger of letting a nation fall to unfriendly forces.
