Friday at a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the investigation of the IRS targeting conservative groups, Rep Paul Ryan(R-WI) grilled Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen about Lois Lerner’s lost emails.
After detailing the stalling tactics the IRS has used to the committees requests for documents several times the Wisconsin congressman said, “I don’t believe you,” adding, “This is a pattern of abuse, a pattern of behavior that is not giving us any confidence that this agency is being impartial.
Koskinen replied, “I have a long career, that’s the first time anyone has said they don’t believe me.”
The hearing erupted into chaos as Ryan was interrupted by the gavel.
Last week, after receiving a subpoena over a year ago, the IRS claimed a crashed computer caused the loss of two years’ worth of emails from Lois Lerner, the official who refused to offer testimony to a congressional oversight committee by pleading her Fifth Amendment rights.
