Pelosi: Americans Should be Afraid of the Supreme Court

Thursday at her weekly press briefing, House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Americans should fear the Supreme Court.

“We should be afraid of this court,” Pelosi said. “That five guys should start determining what contraceptions are legal or not. … It is so stunning.”

The California Democrat was discussing a dust-up about pending LGBT anti-discrimination legislation including a religious bias clause in light of the Supreme Courts “Hobby Lobby” ruling when when she said, “That court decision was a frightening one. That five men should get down to the specifics of whether a woman should use a diaphragm and she should pay for it herself or her boss. It’s not her boss’s business. His business is whatever his business is. But it’s not what contraception she uses.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling that some for-profit corporations may seek exceptions to the birth control mandate in ObamaCare has caused concern among Democratic lawmakers that the ruling could be extend to use religious freedom to discriminate.
