MO Gov Relieves Local Police, Announces Highway Patrol Taking Over

Thursday, after a fifth night of civil unrest and protests over the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, Gov. Jay Nixon (D-MO) announced the Highway Patrol will take over law enforcement in the city of Ferguson.

Nixon said, “The Highway Patrol and Captain Johnson will be the lead in the security portion of this. We’ll have significant resources to patrol but they will be continued to be part of that multidisciplinary team which shifts from the local region to assist that … There has been gunfire on both sides, this has been a difficult zone there has been a great deal of activity in that region.”
