Mr. Excitement: Joe Lauzon Sets UFC Fight Bonus Record

Mashantucket, CT — When Joe Lauzon finished Michael Chiesa Friday night at UFC Fight Night, he surpassed B.J. Penn for most finishes at lightweight in UFC history and set the new mark for fight bonuses in UFC history with his “Fight of the Night” nod against Chiesa.

But his battles in the octagon pale next to the grueling battle his newborn namesake endured earlier this year. But like so many of daddy’s battles, Joe Lauzon III came out the victor. As Lauzon captioned a Twitter pic of his son earlier this year, “Only two months old and I’ve already kicked cancer’s ass.”

“I’m done,” Lauzon remembered thinking prior to his first UFC scrap eight-years ago against mixed-martial-arts legend Jens Pulver. “This is not worth all the effort.” His perspective changed after scoring a quick knockout. Like his son, he fights.
