The Daily Beast’s Ana Marie Cox criticized Attorney General Eric Holder for his record on civil liberties and dubbed him “the worst Attorney General for journalists, probably in decades” on Saturday’s “Up with Steve Kornacki” on MSNBC.
“I’m not so sad he’s leaving either. It would be interesting to see if the Republicans can find somebody worse on civil liberties or if we actually get an improvement. That’s some place that they have actually criticized Eric Holder, and he’s been terrible, he’s been the worst Attorney General for journalists, probably in decades” she said.
Cox did add some praise of Holder’s work in other areas, but pointed out that his poor treatment of journalist undermined those accomplishments, stating “I do have a lot of personal respect for him. I do think the stuff he’s done on civil rights is really important, but those two things are linked. When you start silencing journalists, when you start putting journalists in jail, when you start letting corporations do what they want because they’re too big to jail, the people that get hurt by that are the people who are minorities, who are the less powerful in society.”
