Obama 2006 Flashback: I've Stolen Ideas from Jonathan Gruber

In April 2006 at the Brookings Institution, then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) said he had “stolen” ideas from ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber who has created controversy with several video clips surfacing recently of condescending comments Gruber made about tricking the “stupid” American voter by lying about the Affordable Care Act’s true costs and tax changes.

Obama said, “You have already drawn some of the brightest minds from academia and policy circles, many of them I have stolen ideas from liberally, people ranging from Robert Gordon to Austan Goolsbee, Jon Gruber, my dear friend, Jim Wallis here, who can inform what are sometimes dry policy debates with a prophetic voice.”
