Amb Power Slams UN ‘Staged Confrontation’ Palestinian Statehood Vote

Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council held vote on Palestinian statehood.  Eight members voted for the resolution including Russia, France, and China, and two — the United States and Australia voted against, with five abstentions.

Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, blasted the resolution as “deeply imbalanced” and a “staged confrontation.”

The resolution called for 12-month deadline for a peace deal with a forced Israeli withdrawal from East Jerusalem and the West Bank by 2017.
