Jimmy Carter Ties Paris Attacks to the ‘Palestinian Problem’

On Monday’s episode on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” former President Jimmy Carter suggested there was a link between the Paris terrorist attack on the French magazine Charlie Hedbo and the ongoing dispute involving the Palestinians.

According to the former president, the Palestinian problem is at the origin, which was the impetus for the new breed of terrorists from western nations trained in Syria.

“Well, one of the origins for it is the Palestinian problem,” Carter replied. “And this aggravates people who are affiliated in any way with the Arab people who live in the West Bank and Gaza, what they are doing now — what’s being done to them. But I think that’s part of it. But I think this is a new evolutionary development in terrorism — where people go into Syria. They get trained there. They have a passport from France, from Great Britain, from the United States. They stay there a few months and learn how to be a terrorist. Then they come back through Turkey and you know they’ve been there. And you know who they are. I think this event — and Paris is waking up  to watch those people more closely than they have in the past, but not single out all of the Muslims in the country.”
