In a wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Dana Bash about his pending retirement from Congress that aired on CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid sounded off on the 2016 presidential race, some of his Republican Senate colleagues in that race, his likely successor as the Democratic leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his thoughts on President Barack Obama.
Also during that interview, Bash asked Reid about his 2012 Senate floor remarks attacking the Koch Brothers and then-Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Reid had claimed Romney had not paid federal taxes, which was based on some dubious sources, to which Bash said some had called “McCarthy-ite.”
Reid said he had no regrets for making those remarks.
“They can call it whatever they want,” Reid replied. “Romney didn’t win, did he?”
