EMILY’s List Spox: Rand Shutting Down Discussion By Asking Our Opinion

EMILY’s List Communications Director Jess McIntosh complained that Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was trying to shut down discussion on abortion by asking whether ” killing a 7-pound baby that’s just not born yet” should be legal on Thursday’s “NOW with Alex Wagner” on MSNBC.

McIntosh argued that Rand saying the media should ask DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz “if she’s OK with killing a 7-pound baby that’s just not born yet,” “seems like a screeching halt to any sort of discussion.”

McIntosh then said that Democrats are OK with allowing the scenario Paul laid out to be legal, stating “Democrats are pretty clear on this, we want to leave it up to doctors when that’s appropriate, and Rand Paul thinks it should be left up to him, which means that he has to answer a lot more questions. Not having exemptions for the life of the mother is so outside of the mainstream, even among people who call themselves pro-life. If you hold that position, you have to explain why.”
