Columnist Charles Krauthammer argued that if a political ideology can be blamed for Baltimore’s schools “it is the ideology of liberals” on Friday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel.
After talking about the problem of fatherlessness in Baltimore, Krauthammer said, “the other issue is the terrible schools, and the idea that they have been deprived of money is preposterous. Baltimore the second highest per-capita spending on students in the country [note: Baltimore was third in FY 2012, the latest year figures from the Census Bureau are available,] and it has awful schools. And if you want to blame it on political ideology, it is the ideology of liberals, who want to throw money at the problem. We know the war on poverty did not succeed, and who think if you throw more money at education it’s going to work, it will not. The public schools are rotten. What the parents need is school choice.”
