Halperin, Heilemann: Pelosi’s Clinton Remarks ‘Ominous,’ ‘Who Needs Enemies?’

Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect” hosts Mark Halperin and John Heilemann dubbed Nancy Pelosi’s reaction to the latest Clinton Foundation revelations as “ominous” and wondered “with friends like that, who needs enemies?” on Friday.

Heilemann reacted to Pelosi’s remarks with “Ouch, with friends like that, who needs enemies?”

Halperin said that Pelosi’s statement was an example of “people speaking out, being critical of the Clintons, or not coming to their defense and not helping them in a way that is ominous because if people aren’t afraid to say what they think and what they know about the Clintons’ past practices, they’re going to have a very tough time emerging as a general election campaign in a strong position.”

Heilemann concluded, “The fact of Nancy Pelosi not being more robust in her defense of the Clintons — if she’s a canary in the coal mine, and other Democrats end up where she is, not defending them, they have a real problem on their hands.”
