Mike Wilbon: ‘Hope Solo Is a Menace’

Mike Wilbon, speaking on Monday’s broadcast of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption,” responded to the new report that was released on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” which shows police reports that U.S. Women’s Soccer goalie Hope Solo, five-foot-nine-inches and 150 pounds, struck her six-feet-eight-inches 270 pound 17-year-old nephew. Solo, the starting goalie for the U.S. Women’s National Team, eventually had the case dropped.

According to Wilbon, this situation, although the case was eventually dropped, means that Solo is a “menace” and she shows “male jock behavior.”

“You know what, Hope Solo is a menace. She has behaved that way. This is multiple times. She’s been involved in so much stuff and if this was a guy, and we need to talk gender here. This is male jock behavior; at least there would be people at least on the fringes screaming out about it even as people like athletic directors and coaches and sometimes university presidents defend them.”

Earlier, Bill Plaschke questioned on ESPN’s “Around the Horn” why Solo was even still on the team after the new report.
