Rep. Sanford: Charleston Shooting ‘an Outlier’

In an appearance on CNN’s “New Day” on Thursday, Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC), the congressman who represents Charleston, SC, reacted to last night’s mass shooting at the Charleston’s historic Emanuel AME Church that resulted in nine dead.

Sanford said it was uncharacteristic of city of Charleston and the state of South Carolina, calling it an outlier.

“This is so out of place,” Sanford said. “That’s why people are shocked, they are in disbelief. I think Mayor Riley said it so well this morning  I think that Chief Mullen said it well. I think a whole host of community leaders have said it well. This is out of character for Charleston, for South Carolina. It does not make sense. It is an outlier. It immediately needs to be dealt with. Again, you’re left in disbelief. Obviously thoughts and prayers are with the families affected.”
