Santorum: Congressional Leadership ‘Pathetic,’ Should Shut Down to Have Hearings on POTUS

Republican presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum argued the leadership in Congress is “pathetic” and should have shut down to do hearings on constitutional abuses by the president on Friday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.

Santorum said, (relevant exchange begins around 5:10) “this leadership in Congress has been pathetic. And we have allowed the president to abuse his authority with this executive amnesty. If I was in the leader of the United States Senate…I would have told you — in fact I communicated to many members in leadership what I would have done. And what I would have done is shut down the United States Senate, shut down the House of Representatives and say, ‘We are not moving anything. We’re going to do hearings on abuse of the Constitution of the president. We’re not going to move any bills. We’re not going to pass any budgets. We’re simply going to focus on this.'”

Santorum added, “when you have a president… who says, I don’t have to obey the law, that I can rewrite the law, not just not enforce it, but rewrite the law, then we have another problem of another branch of government exceeding their authority. The Congress needs to grow up and stand up, and they’re not.”
