CNN’s Stelter: Pushback Against Jenner ESPY Award Shorthand for Dismissing ‘Transition’

In reacting to former gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner’s Wednesday night speech at the ESPYs and the Bob Costas comments in June that the Arthur Ashe Courage Award given to Jenner was just for the ratings because others were more deserving, CNN “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter proposed on Thursday’s broadcast of the network’s weekday morning show “New Day” the notion that saying someone else was more deserving of the award is just another way of “dismissing Caitlyn Jenner’s transition.”

“Many people say there were others more deserving. I think in some ways, that’s shorthand for dismissing Caitlyn Jenner’s transition. Some people are calling her ‘Bruce’ purposefully; saying ‘him’ purposefully. But I understand that people have  legitimate questions, concerns and curiosities here.”
