CM Punk, Awaiting His Cage Debut, Takes on ‘Coward’ UFC Fighter on Twitter

UFC welterweight Cathal Pendred called CM Punk a “massive personality” who brings “a lot of attention to the sport” when Breitbart Sports caught up with him in Boston earlier this year. Yesterday on Twitter, CM Punk called the Irishman “boring,” a “coward,” and an alternative name for a cat.

The former professional wrestler, after signing with the UFC late last year, still awaits an opponent for his debut in the cage. He exhibits no such apprehension in mixing it up with actual UFC fighters online.

It’s unlikely the UFC puts a fighter sans fights in the octagon with a 17-3-1 mixed-martial artist. But words make fights more than anything else. And Pendred, who drifted into the doghouse with the UFC after last year when he named himself as the former WWE champion’s first MMA opponent, holds a history of letting go of the words “CM Punk.”

Pendred, a controversial figure for figuring into so many controversial decisions, hinted at the reason for saying his online adversary’s name so much when he told Breitbart Sports, “I think the person that gets to fight him is going to be very fortunate in that they’re going to get new fans and a lot of attention as well.”

The same goes for the person who fights him on social media.
